It’s Raining on Prom Night

Posted by todd under: Ramblings .

“It’s raining on prom night, my hair is a mess
It’s running all over my taffeta dress…” Cindy Bullens

Ok, so it’s not really Prom Night, and I’m not wearing a taffeta dress (c’mon people, haven’t you ever watched Grease?!), but I kind of feel the same disappointment.

You see, this year I am planting a large garden (for the first time since I was 12 or so, wish me luck!) and I’m ready to get started! The only problem is, the weather is not cooperating.

It is March 27, and it is SNOWING. Not just little baby flurries, but major, big, floppy wet flakes. The kind that are perfect for making snowmen with the kids. The kind that you like to watch on a December evening curled up by a fireplace with someone you love. NOT the kind you want when you are desperately longing for Spring.

I believe that global warming is a major issue (even if it has become, sadly enough, politicized). But at times like this, I can’t help but start to wonder….

Maybe next week. Sigh.

I saw a non-political book on global warming called “The Great Warming.” I heard it has absolutely no political agenda whatsoever, but gives an historical account of a previous period of warming, and how we survived then… and suggests things about our future as it pertains to global warming. You might enjoy it.

Just an fyi…most of the veggies you are going to plant shouldn’t be planted until mid-May. I think lettuce is one of the few that can be planted earlier. You probably already know this, but in case you don’t, you might want to do some research on what should be planted when so that it flourishes. :)

I knew I was supposed to wait until after the last frost for most of them, but thanks for the extra info! That could’ve been disastrous!

But I really wanted to get out there and dig around and play in the dirt. :)

also of note, if you plant a few lettuce seeds every week, you’ll have a constant fresh head of lettuce! same with mesclun.
not sure about anything else…
